Firecrafter: Today and Tomorrow (Ransburg, Lockdowns, and You!)

This page is meant to be constantly updated as major events occur. If you believe something has happened worthy of being reflected on this page, please email councilsecretary@firecrafter.org.

Throughout Ransburg's history there has always been Firecrafter activity. Typically someone was chosen to coordinate it, however in 2010 at the end of scoutcraft, and official Firecrafter program area was created at the existing shelter to help candidates for Firecrafter and campers attempting the ranks of camper and woodsman to help hone their skills and achieve the ranks. The first director of this area was the former chief: Justin "Sox" Scott. He directed this area until 2018 where the role of director was passed down to Matt Hustel, who would later become a council chief. The Firecrafter area of Ransburg would continue to be led and staffed by some of the most dedicacted Firecrafters in the organization, and is the driving cause for most completed youth Firecrafter candidacies in scouting.

In 2019 Firecrafter's member base expanded exponentially when female youth were allowed to officially join scouting and therefore Firecrafter. 6 youth joined the organization in 2019 and 2020 which paved the way for more to follow in the future. These, however, were not the first female youth in the organization. This happened  in 2017,  when Allison Cunningham and Allison Shephard (both crowned Minisino in 2019) were allowed to become firecrafters. For more in depth information on the impact of women in Firecrafter, please read this page.

Firecrafter's building momentum was put to a pause alongside the world in 2020. Due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus, the 2020 ritual was made invite only. Summer camp was not enabled to continue due to the nationwide shutdowns, so Matt Hustel, the chief at the time, and Ryan Wainscott, the next elected chief, underwent the task of running Firecrafter virtually in order to keep the program alive. Among these were simply ways to keep FIrercafter fellowship high. Throughout the summer, Matt Hustel posted "Chief's Challenges" on Firecrafter Social Media to encourage cheerfullness and togetherness among scouts during the quarantine. Candidates were allowed to earn ranks at a unit level through the lone troop program, and Firecrafter candidates waiting on a ritual were granted an extra year to be able to attend one. This ensured that candidates would not have their Firecrafter goals completely erased by something out of their control. One additional program that was implemented after the shutdowns were lifted was the "Golden Attendance Award." This award was created by chief Alex Buxton, and it encouraged Firecrafters to attend events to earn a golden rounder (as pictured to the right). This helped to boost event attendance immediately following the lockdowns, and it led to the most attended CCM in Firecrafter history.

The history of the future of Firecrafter is up to you to create. Get involved, dream big, and one day the impact you create will be reflected in the greater histoy of Firecrafter.

Firecrafter is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
